Åmål’s pleasantness has been winning it awards. In 2002 Åmål was named ”city centre of the year”. In 2005 Åmål became runner-up in the world-wide competition for best city in the class for communities with less than 20,000 inhabitants. The award was presented by Livecom Awards.
These commendations did not come about by chance. Åmål is a very pleasant little city, with all of the advantages a small town can have. Everything is close-by, including Lake Vänern, three marinas, the Forsbacka golf course and the Åmål horse racing track.
There are good possibilities for finding nice housing that is close to the water and has a view over Lake Vänern, which is Sweden’s largest lake and Europe’s third-largest sweet water lake.
Åmål is situated along the E45 and the railway connection Karlstad-Gothenburg. This provides good commuting possibilities. The nearest airport is Karlstad, which you reach within the hour.
