Åmål
Åmål has a long and genuine industrial tradition. Here you’ll find industrial businesses that develop and manufacture their own products. There are also companies here that have solid experience as suppliers of systems, subsystems and components.
What distinguishes the trade and industry here is the great number of diverse small industrial businesses that together make up a strong cluster. Their specialty lies above all with cutting applications in different forms. You’ll also find tool makers here, and businesses that are active in the field of maintenance and service.
Åmål works closely together with its neighbouring municipality of Säffle. Amongst others, they run a technical college together, where young people are trained in the areas of expertise that are required by businesses, both locally as well as regionally.
Expertise in manufacturing
Åmål above all has extensive and specialised know-how in the field of manufacturing industries. Amongst the sectors that distinguish themselves, you’ll find:
- propeller shafts (Spicer Nordiska Kardan)
- ignition systems and stators (SEM)
- thermoplastic elastomers (Elasto)
- maintenance of railway vehicles (Euromaint Rail)
- solar power plants/Stirling engines (Cleanergy)
- actuators (Reac)
- sawing blades (Håkansson Sågblad).
Apart from this, there’s a cluster of engineering companies with high level expertise in the field of cutting applications such as welding, turning and milling.
Industrial plots ready for construction
In Åmål, you’ll find several well-planned, ready for construction industrial plots and good possibilities for finding suitable spaces for industrial use, office/administration, and trade.
Businesses that move in can make strategic choices and benefit from the expertise of the companies that are already established on the industrial and trade estates.
Great networks
Åmål knows several business associations, amongst others Åmåls Industriförening, Företagarna Åmål, and Åmål Handel, the latter having the objective to develop trade and industry. What applies to all of the associations is that they work together for creating more contact possibilities and cooperation between members, with other organisations and with the municipality. They are also in good contact with other organisations and authorities.
Åmåls Industriförening was already founded in 1963 (at that time under the name of Åmåls Fabriksförening). It’s a strong network of which practically all industrial businesses in the municipality are members. The association represents the industry’s specific and common interests in the municipality and the region.
Företagarna Åmål is part of the national organisation of Företagarna. The local branch represents small and medium-sized businesses from all sectors and has close to 70 members.
Åmål Handel coordinates and furthers trade and service companies in Åmål. The association has over 40 members and is an important organisation for the development of Åmål as a commercial city.
Within the council for trade and industry, there is a broad cooperation between representatives from trade and industry, municipal politicians and officials, as well as trade union representatives. It’s a meeting place for the development of trade and industry. The council for trade and industry addresses common matters regarding business, education and other important subjects. The objective is to increase Åmål’s attraction by combining forces.
Award-winning city
Åmål’s pleasantness has been winning awards. In 2002 Åmål was named ”city centre of the year”. In 2005 Åmål became runner-up in the world-wide competition for best city in the class for communities with less than 20,000 inhabitants. The award was presented by Livecom Awards.
These commendations did not come about by chance. Åmål is a very pleasant little city, with all of the advantages a small town can have. Everything is close-by, including Lake Vänern, three marinas, the Forsbacka golf course and the Åmål horse racing track.
There are good possibilities for finding nice housing that is close to the water and has a view over Lake Vänern, which is Sweden’s largest lake and Europe’s third-largest sweet water lake.
Åmål is situated along the E45 and the railway connection Karlstad-Gothenburg. This provides good commuting possibilities. The nearest airport is Karlstad, which you reach within the hour.
Bluesfests, book fairs and celebrations
Culture and leisure in Åmål is mostly made possible by the associations and the inhabitants’ commitment.
”För Åmål i Centrum” (FÅC) was founded in 1994, and is a webbing of businesses, organisations, associations and private imdividuals who together with the Åmål municipality contribute economically to culture and leisure. This contribution amongst others goes towards the Åmål’s Bluesfest, which is the main Saturday entertainment in town, the Book fair in Dalsland, the culture and leisure week, Åmål’s Christmas Celebration, the ”Åmålshälja”, and the like.
FÅC:s objective is to create a sense of well-being for Åmål’s inhabitants, and to attract more people to the municipality.
