“One of Position West’s benefits is its infrastructure,” says Ann Nordquist, business developer in Vänersborg municipality. “There’s no need for extra margins to get transports to reach their destination on time.”
For transport and logistics, Position West is a great complement to the metropolitan areas of Gothenburg and Oslo. For companies dependent on timely transports and with a need for large spaces for their logistics, a location outside the big cities has major benefits. This also makes for more sustainable transports.
Even, predictable flows
“Here in Position West, the risk of getting stuck in traffic is virtually non-existent. Our traffic flows are almost always even and predictable,” says Nordquist. “Both the physical infrastructure and the broadband and power infrastructure are well developed in Position West.”
Transport times
The road network includes European routes such as:
E6 Gothenburg–Oslo (connects to E44 in Uddevalla).
E45 Gothenburg–Karlstad (connects to E44 in Vänersborg).
E44 Uddevalla–Götene (connects to E6 in Uddevalla and to E20 in Götene).
E20 Gothenburg–Stockholm.
Gothenburg–Oslo: 294 km, approx. 3 h by car.
Gothenburg–Stockholm: 484 km, approx. 5 h by car.
Gothenburg–Malmö: 272 km, approx. 3 h by car.
There are two railway lines for heavy transport passing through Position West:
Gothenburg–Oslo/Karlstad
Gothenburg–Stockholm
There is also a rail connection Uddevalla–Herrljunga–Borås.
Close to the largest Nordic port
The port of Gothenburg is close by. Furthermore, there are ports in Billingsfors, Dingle, Hallinden, Håby, Mellerud, Trollhättan, Strömstad, Vänersborg, Uddevalla and Åmål along inland waterways
For air travel to and from Position West, the international airports of Gothenburg and Oslo are both close by. For domestic flights, there is Trollhättan-Vänersborg airport from which flight time to Bromma airport in Stockholm is 55 minutes.
Easy commute
“Thanks to an extended train and bus system, commuting to, from and within Position West is very easy,” says Nordquist.
The demographic center of Scandinavia
Not only are transports highly functional in Position West but, the area is strategically located from a logistic point of view, which brings both financial and environmental benefits.
“The demographic center of Scandinavia is here in the south of Dalsland in our region. That means that companies that want to reach all of the market in Sweden, Norway and Denmark will find their most strategic location right here,” says Nordquist. Goods to and from the Gothenburg port make for large flows of import and export passing through Position West.
Cost advantage
Nordquist points out that Position West is a complement to Gothenburg and Oslo when it comes to land and commercial spaces.
“Companies that need more space will benefit from establishing their facilities in between the big cities. The example of the Norwegian retail company Varner’s establishment of a logistic center in Vänersborg shows that land can be found here for a tenth of the cost in one of the bigger cities and that our establishment services are appreciated.
Digital infrastructure and power capacity
The digital infrastructure in Position West is well developed. The broadband capacity is high and renewable energy, mostly from hydro and wind power, is easily accessible.
The fact that several 400-kw electric power transmission lines pass over Position West brings benefits to many different businesses, especially offering suitable spots for establishing data centers and other energy intense businesses. Since the energy tax was lowered in January 2017, the interest in building data centers in Sweden has increased notably. We can offer both brownfield and greenfield sites.
Region Västra Götaland aims for world-class digitalization, with the goal of making everyday life easier for individuals and companies.
